First Dr Visit

Well I finally went to the Dr to get a for sure diagnosis...and all 4 home tests were right! In a surprise twist, I found out I'm almost 7 weeks along, even further than the 5 I was expecting to hear. That makes the due date August 18th for now, until we hear differently from an ultrasound. I'm heading down to get on OHP really soon, as well as WIC. I'm still not worried about it, and the nurse I talked to today wasn't worried about my chances either. That's all for now! Wish me luck!

Christmas Surprise!

Well to start things off is the story of how we came to find out about this new little being we created: My (Danika's) birthday is a week before Christmas and the week of my birthday I took a pregnancy test. I do this occasionally. We weren't trying for a baby, but we weren't NOT trying. My cycle is really long, sometimes 36 days, so I always get a little antsy towards the month mark. Anyway, the test came back negative. Then ON my birthday I started to see a little bleeding and I figured I had started my period. Well it turned out to just be some minor (and very normal) spotting. I was stuck at my mom's house the few days before Christmas due to the snow and so I kinda didn't think about it till Christmas Eve night when I finally went home. Christmas morning I randomly woke up early (NOT normal for me!) and was really bored so I decided to whip out one of the usual pregnancy tests hanging around the house. And Holy Crap it was positive! So here I am flipping out in the bathroom as the world around me sleeps...I woke Derek up when I got my bearings and told him the news. He was surprised but happy and cool as a cucumber as usual. I then woke my 3 best friends up to ask them what the heck to do. After Derek woke up for real he said he wanted to tell the family that day because it would be special to do it on Christmas. I was a wreck all the way to the Grandparents house. After some helpful advice from my Aunt Teresa, I decided to tell my mom alone first, who had NO idea it was coming and was in complete shock. Then after I read the story of Jesus' birth from the Bible, a tradition I've been doing since I could read, I told the rest of the family the happy news. Joy abound!

In some quick due date calculating from a site on the net, I'm guessing I'm about 5 weeks along. It'll be more accurate when I see a Dr. and get an ultrasound done. I'm getting proof of pregnancy tomorrow from a Dr. but I don't expect much more. Derek and I are currently uninsured and hoping and praying for Oregon Health Plan to kick in. I'm not terribly worried about it as I've heard it's really easy for a pregnant mom to get, but I'll feel better when it's for sure.

As for how I'm doing, I sprained my elbow during a fall on the ice on my birthday and I think I was ignoring a lot of the symptoms of my pregnancy due to that, but as soon as I knew a lot of things made sense. I've just started some queasiness. No barfing yet...just nausea. I have a pretty strong will when it comes to puking, so I'm hoping for the best in this endeavor. I'm a little bloated and I'm a little tender and tense. All normal I'm told. Oh, and I really want Nachos. But I'm eating well, taking my prenatal vitamins, and drinking a TON of water! (it really helps the nausea for me so it's good on 2 levels.) Which of course means I'm peeing every 5 minutes and being made fun of constantly my those around me. Everythings good though. We have a lot of work cut out for ourselves the next 8 months: moving to a 2 bed-room apt, getting insured, helping my parents cope with being first-time grandparents, and learning anything and everything we can about our new life as a family. Keep us in your prayers and wish us the best of luck! It's gonna be a strange, long year!
